About E-Cigarettes
WHAT IS AN E-CIG?
An electronic cigarette (or e-cigarette), electronic vaping device, or personal vaporizer is a battery-powered device which simulates tobacco smoking. It generally uses a heating element that vaporizes a liquid solution. Some solutions contain a mixture of nicotine and flavorings, while others release a flavored vapor with out nicotine. Many are designed to simulate smoking implements, such as cigarettes or cigars, in their use and/or appearance, while others are considerably different in appearance.
An E-cig contains three essential components: A plastic cartridge that serves as a mouthpiece and a reservoir for liquid, an "atomizer" that vaporizes the liquid, and a battery.

An E-cig contains three essential components: A plastic cartridge that serves as a mouthpiece and a reservoir for liquid, an "atomizer" that vaporizes the liquid, and a battery.

Cartridge
The cartridge, a small plastic container with an opening on each end, serves as both a liquid reservoir and mouthpiece. It allows the passage of liquid to the atomizer and vapor from the atomizer back to the user's mouth, without leaking liquid into the mouth.
Most models adopt a plastic sponge to keep the liquid in place but it is also common to use a refillable tank to carry the liquid with a separate tunnel connecting to the atomizer. When the liquid is depleted, users can refill it or replace it with another pre-filled cartridge. Some users forgo the use of liquid reservoirs and "drip" liquid directly onto the atomizer in a method known as "dripping".
Atomizer
A battery connected to a USB charger A personal charging case, or PCC The atomizer contains a small heating coil that vaporizes the liquid, and generally consists of a simple filament and wicking metal mesh or silica wick to draw the liquid in. It is positioned in the center of the three components that make up the entire electronic cigarette cylinder, as the cartridge attaches to one end, and the power unit to the other. The atomizer's filament will lose efficiency over time due to a buildup of sediment, or "burns out" entirely, requiring replacement. In some models, the cartridge and atomizer component are integrated, known as a cartomizer.
Magnet
adapter magnetic adapter, used to combine battery with a tank atomizer Magnet adapters are usually made of stainless steel, used to combine the e cig battery with atomizers. Magnet adapters allows the conversion of e-cig batteries for use with other threaded e-cig atomizers, cartomizers or clearomizers.
Battery
Most portable power units contain a lithium-ion battery and makes the largest component of an electronic cigarette. This may contain an electronic airflow sensor so that activation is triggered simply by drawing breath through the device. Other models come with a power switch, which must be held during operation. A LED to announce activation may also be equipped in the front of power unit casing.
Batteries are usually charged via AC outlet, car or USB. Some manufacturers also offer a cigarette-pack-like portable charging case (PCC), which contains a larger battery to charge smaller batteries of individual e-cigarettes.
E-Juice
Liquid for producing vapor in electronic cigarettes, known as e-juice or e-liquid, is a solution of propylene glycol(PG) and/or vegetable glycerin(VG) mixed with concentrated flavors, and optionally, a variable percent of a liquid nicotine concentrate. To read more on PG and VG refer to our Ingredients page. There are complex recipes for blends that require Steeping. Most are fine to vape in a couple days, but there are others that require steeping for up to 3 weeks! For more information on how to get the fullest flavor out of your e-Juices, visit our E-liquid Steeping page.
They are often sold in a bottle or as pre-filled disposable cartridges. Many manufacturers offer dozens of flavors which resemble the taste of regular tobacco, menthol, vanilla, coffee, cola and various fruits, but nicotine concentrations vary by manufacturers. The standard notation "mg/ml" is often used in labeling, sometimes shortened to a simple "mg". Nicotine-free solutions are also common.
Some electronic cigarette users opt to make their own e-juice in a form known as "DIY" Glossary. Most E-liquid flavorings contain natural and artificial flavorings. Sometimes these have propylene glycol or ethyl alcohol in them depending on the flavoring or water. These are perfectly safe. Very rarely you may see a flavoring that contains a custard (for example Bavarian Creme) You can find more information on flavoring that includes custard or acetoin in the Flavorist's Workshop.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT
Electronic Cigarette - The Electronic Cigarette is a new technology for smokers. The “E-Cigarette” is a revolutionary device that looks and feels much the same as an ordinary tobacco cigarette, but instead of producing smoke from fire, it produces vapor from the vaporization of the E-Liquid. This is also the reason e-smokers call their Electronic Cigarettes Personal Vaporizers.
Analog - This is the term given to traditional tobacco cigarettes.
Atomizer - The atomizer is what turns the liquid into a vapor, it is in a metal housing that screws into the battery and produces heat.
Battery - The battery provides power to the atomizer when the user inhales on the mouthpiece, it has an LED light on the end that glows when it is inhaled upon. Batteries also come with a Manual switch and have a button to activate rather than activation upon inhalation.
Cartridge - The cartridge is a plastic mouthpiece that contains the wick. This is where you put the e Liquid that becomes vapor.
Cartomizer - This is a disposable cartridge that contains is own atomizer.
E-Cigarette - E Cigarette, E-Cigarette, E-Cig, E Cig - All terms for the Electronic Cigarette.
E-Liquid - E-Liquid is the liquid heated by the atomizer for vaporization into an inhalable vapor. There are many different types of E-Liquid available. All contain similar ingredients but the most commonly found ingredients in E-Liquid are Propylene Glycol, Glycerine, natural and artificial flavors, tobacco essential oil, tobacco absolute, citric acid, lemon, vinegar and water.
E Liquid - Eliquid, E-Liquid, Smoke Juice, E Juice, e juice, E-Juice - All terms for E Liquid.
E-Smoking - E-Smoking is the term used for the action of smoking an electronic cigarette, also known as a “Vapor” or “Vaping” as the action of electronic smoking is actually caused by a vaporization process.
Mod - A design variation of the battery, atomizer, or cartridge.
Nicotine Level - The nicotine level is the amount of nicotine measured in mg/ml.
Personal Vaporizer (PV) - Personal Vaporizer is another term for electronic cigarette. The electronic cigarette uses an atomizer to vaporize the liquid needed to create a vapor for inhalation and exhalation.
Propylene Glycol (PG) - Propylene Glycol is used as a base carrier for the nicotine and flavoring. Propylene Glycol has been deemed generally safe to be used in medical products as well as food products for general consumption.
Vegetable Glycerin (VG) - Vegetable Glycerin is an alternative to Propylene Glycol and is sometimes used as the base in the E-Liquid. Vegetable Glycerin comes from the production of palm or coconut oils and is suitable to be used in sweeteners and in skin care products.
Throat Hit - The throat hit is the feeling felt in the back of the throat when the inhalation is taken from the mouth down the throat. There are a lot of factors in throat hit. One of the factors of throat hit is nicotine level.
Steeping - Letting your e-liquids (soak) kind of marinade in a way of speaking. It lets all the molecules combine to bring out the full flavor potential. Anywhere from 2 days - 3 weeks.
Vaporizer - A Vaporizer turns a liquid into a gas or a vapor. This is also another term used for Electronic Cigarette, E-Cig, PV, etc.
Wick - The wick is poly batting that looks like cotton and is stuffed into the cartridge which is housed in the mouthpiece. The wick is what holds the e-Liquid that is to be vaporized by the atomizer.
